"The Maker" I often picture a spirit like creature when I paint my various strange characters. I envision her sewing them together ad breathing life into them .
"Abnormal Growth" This piece was a part of a series in which each painting encapsulated someone in my life I had lost and felt with me while painting.
"The Lovers" This work is a part of a current series that I am preparing for a show. The idea was to impose images of animals and nature over what felt like layered city walls that had been painted over so many times they created their own texture.
"Messenger" A mixture of acrylic and spray paint on this piece.
"Paper Crane" I kept having this image of a crane and origami cranes in my head. It turns out I am better at painting them than folding them.
"Deer Clown" This piece was made for a show centered around the Mimbres region of New Mexico. The pattern is one you would have found on old pottery from the local tribes and the spiral actually has collected wildflowers mixed in with a gel medium. rather than people in costumes I picture my characters as spirits with characteristics of both.
"CrowSpeak" I have what some might call an unhealthy obsession with painting ravens and crows. There is something about them that I find both soothing and mysterious to paint. In this piece I imagined the spirits of messages leaving the raven spirit creature.
"Sun Mother" A piece created for Native Realities. A celebration of the indigenous experience in modern times.
"Dreambreathing" We have a lot of Datura plants where I live and I find them to be some of the most beautiful flowers. Blooming at night they carry deep dream medicine and Like the owl can bring great wisdom.
"Beneath" A private commission for a great friend and avid collector of my work. This piece actually has elements that glow in the dark creating a secondary viewing experience in the dark.
"Ghost Mob" I have these half formed beings in my head that roam the city watching. The ultimate people watchers and art gatherers. This pice was painted on a 12 foot piece of heavy paper and backed on the edges with tape. Not archival and yet enjoyable to make all the same.
A three diensional piece from my pop up gallery Glimpse. Part painting and mostly sculpture. A experiment in flow painting and the fragile nature of art.
Another piece from the Glimpse show. A smaller piece that was painted on the wall and no longer exists as at the end of the show all the wall space was painted over white.
"Ganesh" This was the piece that ended up o a canvas surrounded by the remainder of the character on the wall at Glimpse. It has since been hung in my basement/workshop and made into another mural centerpiece.
"Flutter" This humming bird was a part of the glimpse show as well. In the following picture you can see where it was on the wall. The majority of the wall was taken up by a character that would eventually be painted over. My daughters name means humming bird ans so now this piece lives in her room.
"Mawp" I wanted this character to seem larger than the space would allow. I envisioned him three stories tall and would like to recreate him some time. My version of a meadow giant.
One of three jellyfish. An experiment in how to create that translucent feel of these wonderful creatures.
For this one I started with a stencil and then used interference paint to embellish them. Surprisingly it was the contrast of the seaweed that was the most challenging part of this.
